2011 TBR Activities: Year in Review
Intakes: This has been a challenging year as more and more Boxers are finding themselves to be homeless. We take in all that we can and grieve for those we cannot help. With limited space, we are more selective than we would like to be, but until we can save them all, we must be rational rather than emotional. We pull in the shelter dogs first as well as those most at risk, and we continue to encourage the public to use local shelters in hopes of lost dogs having a better chance of finding their parents. Please don't give up on the fight to see all pets spayed or neutered before six months of age. Teach everyone you meet that it is irresponsible to breed or buy while shelter and rescue animals die. If you know someone who must give up their boxer, please direct them to the website to complete and assessment form and submit a photo to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Adoptions: TBR completed 165 adoptions this year; the comparison is 175 adopted the previous year. If you know someone interested in adopting a boxer from TBR, please direct them to the website to complete an adoption application. Once that is submitted, they will be contacted by an adoption coordinator.
Finances: Thanks to all volunteers and participants in our fundraising efforts this past year. We have saved so many, but we are only reaching about half of the purebred boxers who need us.
Calendars: Did you get the 2011 calendar of so many of our adopted boxers from the previous year? Thanks go out to Amy Greteman for a super job.
BarkWalk: This was a huge success and tons of fun for all. Job Johnson was far and away the winner raising donations in excess of $1000 for the walk and getting it all turned in, too! Way to go Job and parents! Special thanks to all who volunteered and especially to Patti Kuck and Jill Garcille, coordinators.
Golf Tourney: Once again, the golf putts and boxer butts were a great hit in OKC. Special thanks going out to Amy Greteman with her seemingly unlimited skill and expertise in all things concerning TBR and to Eric Greteman for his considerable generosity!
The Ornament Project and Christmas Parties: There was a good time to be had in Tulsa at Top That! Pizza and at the home of Sheryl Hines in OKC! TBR wanted to make a special effort to say thank you to volunteers. Our tree was beautifully decorated with commemorative ornaments for foster homes for 2010. We had gift items for all past board members and dog tags available for our volunteers. And we have a sincere thanks going out to Denise and Matt Johnson for all the work they put into the ornaments and decorations. If you fostered for us in 2010 and were unable to attend the party, we will be working to deliver these ornaments to you throughout the month of January.
Pics with Santa: This was a great fundraiser and tons of work. It would be great to do this again, but we will need 6 volunteers just for the photo sessions and an entirely different crew of volunteers for the adoption event. Special thanks to Jim Phillips and Emily Spradlin for their dedication to the cause!
